Post by jtees4Post by fishI often hear that one of the symptoms of a heart attack is "pain" in the
left shoulder/arm. What kind of pain is it? Is it normal muscle pain?
Is
it a burning? Is it a shooting or stabbing pain? Does it come and go?
Can
it last for days or weeks? There doesn't seem to be any more detail. Anyone
know? Just doing some research for school.
I had multiple heart attacks a couple of years ago within a one month
period. I would not describe any of my symptoms as pain, which of
course led me to wait too long to get help. I would get a tired (kind
of tightness) feeling up my right arm, across the back of my neck and
down my left arm. A little pressure in my chest. That's about it.
Breathing went from normal to very labored over the course of the
month. My breathing is what got me to the emergency room just in time
according to them.
As they say Hollywood heart attacks have killed a lot of people ...
Ok this was my symptoms 4 months ago.
I woke up in the middle of the night (most attacks are during the night) I
thought I had slight indigestion, had a coffee and went back to bed.
Up the next morning feeling generally ok and went to work, wife phoned me
lunchtime asking after me, she said will I make a doc appointment? I thought
hey maybe a couple of days off work here, why not.
Doc refused to see me said get him to drive straight to A & E which I did, I
felt ok maybe a bit tired, they hooked me up to monitors, took blood
etc,gave me precauctionary injections.
Came back after an hour and told me the good news....you have had a heart
attack...Ouch!
Apart from a generally feeling tired in the months before, I had what I can
only describe as a sharpish type pain (but not painful) on the underside of
my left upper arm had this a few times over months and once on both arms, I
though it was muscle strain and it went away after maybe 30 minutes. Only
other thing (with hindsight) What felt more like a light irritating itch in
the chest area (say size of large coin) when exerting myself, it went away
after a few minutes.
I have had a stent put in and now on medication, but feel great.
To this day I still don`t feel as if I have had a heart attack...as in the
type in Hollywood films.
